The Hannya Chunari is not a yokai like others, this demon was once a woman who let her anger and jealousy transform her into a creature thirsty for revenge. Recognizable by its horns but especially by its distorted face recalling the suffering responsible for its metamorphosis, Hannya is a complex entity associated with both ultimate wisdom and limitless rage.

This lightly colored illustration represents the demon woman in a room with traditional panels opening onto a Japanese garden. The kanji mean "Wisdom" and represent the yokai.
